Former four-star recruit and LSU linebacker Antoine Sampah will enter his name into the transfer portal, the LSU team announced Monday. Sampah had been removed from the LSU roster in July due to injury but has since been cleared to resume his playing career.
Sampah, a top-100 prospect in the class of 2020, chose LSU over the likes of Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State and many other suitors. He appeared in four games as a true freshman in 2020 but did not make a tackle. He did not play last season due to injury.
On July 21, LSU announced that both Sampah and fellow class of 2020 linebacker Phillip Webb had medically retired. But after being cleared by doctors, Sampah now intends to enter his name into the transfer portal. His name had not surfaced in the portal as of Monday afternoon.
"Antoine has worked hard to get healthy and he's been medically cleared to continue his football career," Kelly said in LSU's statement.
Kelly replaced Sampah and Webb by adding a pair of sophomore linebackers from Power Five schools via the portal after taking over at LSU in Virginia's West Weeks.
