Kentucky QB on the market

The NCAA transfer portal never stops.

Days away from the start of fall camp, Kentucky quarterback Beau Allen entered the transfer portal Wednesday.

The Lexington native and former four-star prospect out of Lexington Catholic High School ends his Wildcats career after appearing in five games in two seasons. He played in three games last season, completing 8 of 12 passes for 92 yards.

Allen was the first Rivals four-star high school quarterback since 2014.

“Beau Allen entering the portal doesn't exactly come as a huge surprise, although the timing was unexpected with the season almost here,” said CatsIllustrated.com publisher Justin Rowland. “In his note about the transfer he mentioned a desire for an opportunity to play this season. Barring an injury, that wasn't going to happen with Will Levis working on his draft stock for another year. We didn't get to see much of Allen. He has already been through three offensive coordinators at Kentucky and our expectation was that he would compete with Deuce Hogan, Kaiya Sheron, Destin Wade, or whoever UK brings in from the portal to succeed Levis. The expectation for the last several months is that UK will go to the portal to at least find some extra competition for the QB room after this year. Allen throws a nice ball, is smart, and has some accuracy so I wouldn't be surprised if he finds a solid landing spot.”

With Will Levis established as the Wildcats starting quarterback, the battle to be his backup has lost a competitor.
