New Penn State coach Mike Rhoades landed a major, albeit familiar piece via the transfer portal in VCU point guard Ace Baldwin Jr.
Baldwin announced his decision via Twitter Sunday afternoon, giving Rhoades the defending Atlantic 10 Player of the Year,.
The 6-1 point guard was a three-year starter for the Rams and averaged 12.7 points a game, serving as a catalyst on both ends of the floor. Baldwin’s ability to turn defense into offense, score in a variety of different ways and make his teammates better will undoubtedly translate in the Big Ten.
Securing Baldwin, which most considered to be a forgone conclusion, is arguably the biggest domino for Rhoades next season. That said, Baldwin may very well not be the last Ram to make the leap to University Park.
