Transfer Tracker: Slovis heading to ACC

Mark Pszonak contributed to this report.

The transfer portal never stops grinding. It only took USC transfer quarterback Kedon Slovis a little more than a week to find his future home as he announced on Tuesday that he was committing to Pittsburgh to take over for the departing Kenny Pickett.

Recruiting: Slovis had a huge spring after his junior season, earning offers from Oregon State, UNLV, SMU, NC State and San Jose State. However it was an early-May offer from USC which resulted in his commitment approximately a week later.

At USC: Slovis burst onto the scene as a true freshman with 3,502 yards and 30 touchdowns. After dealing with an injury and a COVID-shortened season during his next two years, he leaves the Trojans having totaled 7,576 yards and 58 touchdowns through the air.

Farrell’s Take: Slovis beat out J.T. Daniels at USC and played as a freshman but he didn't continue to develop as the USC offense struggled a bit. Injury and lack of coaching hurt his but it's clear he has Power Five talent and while I expected him to land out west at Arizona or Cal, the move to Pitt is an intriguing one based on the success of Kenny Pickett. He won't put up the same numbers but he can have a good season there.

IMPACT METER

The Transfer Portal continues to change the way college football programs recruit and manage their rosters so we here at Rivals.com continue to evolve our coverage. Each time a player of note enters the portal, we will examine their potential impact on the college football landscape and assign an impact rating, both when they enter the portal and when they choose a destination. The scale is from 1-10 and the description below explains the scoring scale.

1.1-4.0 — Not a big impact expected, likely a non-starter and down the bench depth player.

4.1- 6.0 — A solid impact can be expected in the right scenario and has the potential to battle for a starting job.

6.1-9.0. — A high impact player who won’t change a program but will certainly be a very good contributor and starter.

9.1- 9.9 — A very high impact player who should start the moment he steps on the field and will change the outlook of a program immediately.

10 — A franchise transfer who has a chance to be an All American and one of the elite players in college football.
