Transfer Tracker: Top programs after Wease

Mark Pszonak contributed to this report.

The transfer portal never stops grinding. With the departure of coach Lincoln Riley to USC, Oklahoma lost several key offensive players. One of these was former five-star wide receiver Theo Wease, who has heard from numerous top programs since his entry into the portal.

Recruiting: Wease made an early commitment to Oklahoma, before re-opening his process. Texas A&M made a serious push, especially after coach Jimbo Fisher was hired, but at the end he re-committed to the Sooners.

At Oklahoma: After a relatively slow true freshman season, Wease showed all of his potential in 2020 with 37 receptions for 530 yards and four touchdowns. Even more was expected from him in 2021, however an injury in fall camp caused him to miss the entire season. Overall, he finished his time at Oklahoma with 45 receptions for 666 yards and six touchdowns.

Potential landing spots: The list of suitors is long, but there is also a belief that Wease may be a package deal with Spencer Rattler. Schools to keep an eye on are Texas A&M, Texas, Auburn, Arizona State, Florida State and Ohio State, with plenty of others trying to get into the chase.

Farrell’s Take: A Texas product it would seem the Aggies and Longhorns would have the early edge here but keep an eye on the schools Rattler is interested in with Arizona State and now rumors regarding interest in Auburn. The former five star has a great frame, long strider speed and the potential to be a star in the right offense. The injury set him back this season but hasn't affected his interest.

IMPACT METER

The Transfer Portal continues to change the way college football programs recruit and manage their rosters so we here at Rivals.com continue to evolve our coverage. Each time a player of note enters the portal, we will examine their potential impact on the college football landscape and assign an impact rating, both when they enter the portal and when they choose a destination. The scale is from 1-10 and the description below explains the scoring scale.

1.1-4.0 — Not a big impact expected, likely a non-starter and down the bench depth player.

4.1- 6.0 — A solid impact can be expected in the right scenario and has the potential to battle for a starting job.

6.1-9.0. — A high impact player who won’t change a program but will certainly be a very good contributor and starter.

9.1- 9.9 — A very high impact player who should start the moment he steps on the field and will change the outlook of a program immediately.

10 — A franchise transfer who has a chance to be an All American and one of the elite players in college football.
