LaJohntay Wester, a wide receiver out of Florida Atlantic, entered the transfer portal. His intentions became known December 14th, and now, he’s officially in. As an Owl since 2020, Wester has played in 45 games, starting 32 contests, including 23 in the past two seasons alone. Wester is a senior, having been a part of the program for four seasons.
Wester enjoyed a big breakout campaign in 2023, hauling in 108 receptions for 1,168 yards and eight touchdowns, averaging nine receptions per game, 10.8 yards per catch, and 97.3 yards per game. Wester was also utilized in the running game, carrying the ball eight times for 44 yards and a touchdown. Finally, as a specialist, he excelled: he returned 14 punts for 278 yards and a score. Wester was second in the nation in receptions per game and 11th in receiving yards and receiving yards per game.
For his efforts, Wester was honored by the AAC with a Special Teams Player of the Year nod and First Team recognition as both a wide receiver and punt returner. He was also named an FWAA All-American First Team selection as a punt returner. Wester was also recognized as a 2023 All-AAC First Team wide receiver and Third Team punt returner by Phil Steele.
Between 2021 and 2022, Wester combined for 127 receptions for 1,421 receiving yards and 12 receiving touchdowns. He totaled over 700 yards and 60 receptions in each of those seasons, respectively. As a punt returner, he combined for 33 returns for 265 yards. He was an honorable mention in the Conference USA in 2022 as a wide receiver and punt returner.
Now, Wester will get all of the attention, especially from Power Five programs looking to add a veteran with impressive speed and ball skills in both their receiving corps and punt returning duty.
