The transfer portal never stops and Sunday South Florida landed a quarterback when Baylor transfer Gerry Bohanon committed.

Bohanon made the announcement via his Instagram page.

Arguably one of the five best available players in the portal, Bohanon is a tremendous pick up for Bulls head coach Jeff Scott who started true freshman Timmy McClain at quarterback last season.

Bohanon visited USF over the weekend and tripped to Missouri shortly after entering the transfer portal on April. 27. He also considered BYU, Georgia Tech, Liberty and Oklahoma.

As a fourth-year junior Bohanon started 12 of 14 games for Baylor last season, including wins over Texas and Oklahoma, ranked No. 4 in the Big XII in total offense (2,517 yards) with threw 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions and rushed for nine other scores.

Pro Football Focus graded Bohanon at 80.3 overall last season among the top 30 in the country for all starting quarterbacks and in the top 20 in the P5.

A leg injury kept the dual-threat quarterback out of the Big 12 championship but Bohanon returned to the starting lineup in Baylor's 21-7 victory over Ole Miss in the Allstate Sugar Bowl. The win was Baylor’s first New Year’s Day bowl win in more than 60 years.

Bohanon’s backup was awarded the starting job during Baylor’s spring practice and that led to Bohanon deciding to enter the transfer portal.

He joins a quarterback room at USF that includes McClain, Katravis Marsh, Jordan Smith, and true freshmen Byrum Brown and Gunnar Smith.

Bohanon will have two seasons of eligibility if he chooses to use his ‘COVID’ year.

Kelly Quinlan, publisher of BullsInsider.com talked about the impact of Bohanon's decision to run with the Bulls.

"This has been a program that's been stuck a little bit in neutral since Jeff Scott got there. You know, they took over and COVID happened two months after they got to Tampa and they've really struggled to kind of get a splash recruit get a splash pickup. They did a nice job of rebuilding the roster, sort of Brick by Brick after Charlie Strong left it in kind of a mess. This is a possible transformational type pickup for USF. In the time that I've covered them, this is probably the biggest commitment they've gotten. Probably the biggest commitment in a number of years just because this is a guy who is a proven quantity. He led a team to Sugar Bowl at Baylor was really efficient. The one thing this team has lacked over the last few years has been a really great quarterback. Really the last run they had they had tremendous quarterback play. I think that Gerry Bohanon really, really makes them instantly at least a team that everyone's going to be really curious to watch this fall. You know, the leadership piece of it's going to be huge as well, because they were playing with a true freshman quarterback last year, who really needs some time to develop. I think this is a pretty amazing pickup for a team like South Florida and they went in and beat a bunch of P5 teams out for him too."
