A trio of Cardinals plan to enter the portal

Three Louisville freshmen – Devin Ree, Kamari Lands and Fabio Basili – announced their intent to enter the NCAA transfer portal when the window opens on Monday.

The worst season in Louisville men's basketball history ended Tuesday with an 80-62 thumping by Boston College in the ACC tournament. Lands played 23 minutes, scored seven points to go along with two assists, one rebound and one block. Basili and Ree did not score but only played six minutes – combined.

Ree was ranked the No. 22 small forward and the No. 89 overall prospect in the Rivals150 for the 2022 class. A four-star prospect from Terry HS (MS) selected Louisville over LSU, Auburn, Memphis and others.

A four-star prospect out of Hillcrest Prep (AZ) Lands was the No. 24 ranked small forward and the No. 91 ranked overall prospect in the Rivals150 for the 2022 class. He reopened his recruitment on Aug. 22, 2021 four months after committing to Syracuse and committed to Louisville on New Year’s Day 2022. He chose the Cardinals over offers from Arizona State, Kansas, Marquette, Texas Tech and Xavier.

Basili chose Louisville over offers from SMU and TCU.

Players who enter the portal do have the option to withdraw and remain at their current school, but if all three of these players transfer, head coach Kenny Payne will have lost his entire 2022 high school recruiting class.
