Fran Brown secured depth and talent all in one, landing former Washington wide receiver Johntay Cook. The 6-foot, 170-pound speedster will have three years of eligibility remaining with the Orange.

In 2023, Cook was a five-star prospect out of DeSoto (Texas) High School, checking in at No. 24 overall in the Top 100.

He committed to the hometown Longhorns out of high school, but played sparingly, posting just eight catches for 137 yards in 2024. That led to him hitting the transfer portal and landing at Washington last December.

But by January, Cook was dismissed from the team for undisclosed reasons.

Since the dismissal, Cook has had a couple of legal issues with two arrests in February.

Still, Brown is hoping Cook can refocus and contribute to the reigning top passing offense in the ACC. The Orangemen threw for 4,810 yards and 34 touchdowns in 2024.
