Alabama redshirt freshman quarterback Dylan Lonergan will be heading to the northeast to play for a former Crimson Tide assistant coach.
The 6-foot-2, 214-pounder is transferring to Boston College and coach Bill O’Brien, who is completing his first season with the Eagles. He went 7 of 8 passing for 35 yards in three games played.
O’Brien, the former Penn State and Houston Texans coach, was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Alabama in 2021-22, where he recruited Lonergan.
Lonergan was a Rivals.com four-star prospect coming out of Snellville (Ga.) Brookwood High in the class of 2023. He was ranked No. 238 overall nationally, No. 19 in the state of Georgia and No. 13 pro-style quarterback in his class.
Lonergan went 120-of-202 passing for 1,654 yards, 15 touchdowns and four interceptions his senior year. He also rushed 78 times for 397 yards and four scores.
Lonergan committed to Alabama over South Carolina and Stanford. He joined quarterback Eli Hostein in that class, who left last year and made the successful transition to Pittsburgh
