Arizona State has lost a pair of defensive linemen to the transfer portal in junior B.J. Green II and redshirt freshman Ashley Williams, Jr.

Starting with Green, in three seasons with the Sun Devils, he has played in 30 games totaling 60 tackles (34 solo), 21.0 tackles for loss, and 13.5 sacks. In 12 games played this past season, Green had 39 total tackles (21 solo), 11.5 tackles for loss and 6.0 sacks. By far his most productive season.

Green committed to Arizona State as a 3-star strongside defensive end out of Prince Avenue Christian High School in Bogart, GA. He was part of the Sun Devils’ 2021 class and had a Rivals rating of 5.5. Given he had his best season ever, it’s a real bummer for Arizona State to lose him. It appears as though he recognizes his stock has risen and that he can find a better home elsewhere.

As for Williams, he didn’t record any stats during his time with the Sun Devils, which might explain why he’s looking for a new home. He did come in as a fairly highly rated recruit as part of their 2023 class. He was rated as a 3-star recruit with a 5.7 Rivals rating, ranked 28th at his position and 24th in the state of Arizona. He’s a guy who has a lot of potential. It just never got realized at Arizona State. It’ll be interesting to see if he’ll be able to find a situation that will allow him to flourish.
