Boise State QB Hank Bachmeier enters portal

Former Boise State quarterback Hank Bachmeier, who has started 29 games across four seasons, entered the transfer portal Tuesday, Rivals has learned. The move does not come as a surprise, as BJ Rains of Bronco Nation News reported Monday that Bachmeier was ending his Boise State career and planned to enter the portal.

Bachmeier's departure comes three days after the Broncos fired offensive coordinator Tim Plough. The move preserves a year of eligibility for Bachmeier, as he remains eligible to redshirt this season, having appeared in only four games. He will have two college seasons left.

Bachmeier did not have to wait to enter the portal until Dec. 5, the start of the first "transfer window," implemented this year by the NCAA, because he has already graduated.

Bachmeier became a rare Rivals250 prospect to sign with a non-Power Five school when he landed with Boise State in the 2018 class. He chose the Broncos over an offer list that included 13 Power Five programs, including Georgia, Ole Miss, Tennessee and UCLA.

Bachmeier shone at times during his Boise career but has struggled this season. He was benched in Boise State's season-opening loss to Oregon State, and he completed just 13 of 34 passes for 93 yards in the Broncos' 27-10 loss to UTEP on Saturday.

On the year, Bachmeier has completed 54.3 percent of his passes for 497 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions. As a junior, Bachmeier threw for more than 3,000 yards as well as 20 touchdowns and 8 picks.

Taylen Green replaced Bachmeier against Oregon State and figures to start the rest of the season at quarterback for the Broncos.
