Bowling Green coach Scott Loeffler went 7-6 the last two years, but after six years with the Falcons, he decided to take the quarterbacks coach position with the champion Philadelphia Eagles.

Loeffler’s ill-timed departure has opened a 30-day window for Bowling Green players to enter the transfer portal. Rising sixth-year safety C.J. Brown has entered the portal.

Brown signed with Northern Illinois and played 35 games for the Huskies. The 5-foot-11, 195-pounder had 107 tackles his sophomore year, to go along with a sack and interception in 2021. He topped 10-plus tackles in four games that season, and had 14 in a 42-21 loss vs. Western Michigan on Nov. 23, 2021. Northern Illinois won the MAC title and he was named first-team all-league at defensive back.

Brown slipped to 78 tackles and an interception his junior year at NIU. He had 13 tackles and a fumble recovery in a 38-28 loss vs. Vanderbilt on Sept. 17, 2022. Brown earned second-team All-MAC for his efforts.

Brown was limited to three games in 2023 and made the move to Bowling Green. He bounced back to have 73 tackles, two passes defended and one interception (against Miami of Ohio) with his first season with the Falcons. Brown had a combined 10 tackles in road losses against Texas A&M and Penn State last fall.

Brown played at Walled Lake (Mich.) Western High and was a standout on offense and defense, and earned first-team all-state in Michigan. He finished with 125.5 tackles and 16 interceptions, and scored 33 touchdowns on offense is his career.
