Cal redshirt sophomore quarterback Ben Finley has entered the transfer portal as a graduate transfer with two years left. Finley played from 2020-2022 at NC State and then transferred to Cal for the 2023 season. For his career up to this point, Finley has played in 14 games going 137-246 for 1484 yards, seven touchdowns, and nine interceptions. His career passer rating is 108.4. This past season at Cal, Finley played in six games going 54-94 for 572 yards, three touchdowns, and four interceptions. His passer rating was 110.6.

Given the emergence of Fernando Mendoza as their quarterback for the future, it makes sense for why Finley is seeking a new home. He’s leaving Cal with a graduate certificate in business administration and also more experience under center. He should be able to provide solid depth to whatever quarterback room he joins next.

Touching quickly on his high school career, Finley committed to NC State as a 3-star quarterback with a 5.7 Rivals rating in the 2020 class. He played at Paradise Valley High School in Phoenix, Arizona. In addition to NC State, out of high school he held offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Iowa State, and Nevada. It’ll be interesting to see if he returns home to play for one of the Arizona schools or if he’ll take his talents to some other part of the country.
