A pair of Cal players entered the transfer portal on Wednesday: Junior wide receiver Jeremiah Hunter and redshirt sophomore defensive back DeJuan Butler.

Starting with Hunter, he is coming off a really strong season in which he had 63 receptions for 751 yards and seven touchdowns. During the total of his four seasons at Cal (he did not play his true freshman season), Hunter had 144 receptions for 2104 yards and 13 touchdowns in 33 games played. He committed to Cal as a 4-star recruit with a 5.8 Rivals rating out of Central High School in Fresno, California as part of their 2020 class. He definitely backed up his rating during his time at Cal and should look to be a really nice addition to someone else’s wide receiver room next season.

As for Butler, in four seasons with the Bears (he did not play his true freshman season), he totaled eight tackles (four solo) in 20 games played. This past season, he played in 10 games and totaled three tackles (one solo), so he played a bit, but didn’t produce much. He committed to Cal as a 3-star recruit with a 5.6 Rivals rating as part of their 2020 class. He’s not much of a loss for them and in turn likely won’t garner much attention out of the portal. It’ll be interesting to see where he ends up and whether or not he’ll be able to stick at the power-five level.
