Clemson starting to get active in transfer portal

Former Purdue sophomore defensive end Will Heldt has become a rare Clemson transfer target.

Heldt, who ESPN’s Pete Thamel is reporting that he’ll officially visit Clemson this weekend, had a strong second campaign for the Boilermakers.

The 6-foot-6, 265-pounder had 54 tackles (35 solo), five sacks, nine tackles for loss, five quarterback hurries and one fumble recovery this season. Heldt had two sacks against Indiana State in the opener, and he he had a season-high eight tackles in a 52-6 loss at Wisconsin on Oct. 5.

Heldt was a three-star prospect, No. 7 overall in Indiana and No. 42 weakside defensive end in the country by Rivals.com in the class of 2023. The Carmel (Ind.) High picked Purdue over Duke, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest among others. He has also officially visited the Hawkeyes.

The winter college football transfer portal window is scheduled to open on December 9th, 2024 for 20 days. Additionally, players have a 30-day window to transfer if their head coach leaves. There is also a five-day window for players to transfer after their team has finished postseason play.
