Duke landed prized Texas quarterback Maalik Murphy in the 2024 transfer cycle but it looks like he's not going to be in Durham for next season.

News broke Monday evening that Murphy would be entering his name into the transfer portal for the second year in a row.

Murphy is coming off a very solid sophomore season, his first as a starter after transferring from Texas. He led the Blue Devils to a 5-0 start and a regular season record of 9-3. It was only Duke's second nine-win season since 2014.

Murphy threw for nearly 3,000 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions while completing 60.3-percent of his passes.

In a quarterback class devoid of elite prospects, the 2025 transfer cycle at the sport's premier position just got a lot more interesting. Murphy is sure to command the attention of a sizable group of quarterback-needy teams. South Carolina, Baylor, and Oregon State were the other major contenders for Murphy during the previous transfer cycle.
