Casey Thompson, a quarterback out of Florida Atlantic, intends to enter the transfer portal. Thompson, who joined the Owls for a lone 2023 campaign, made his intentions clear on December 21st. The quarterback missed most of the 2023 season after tearing his ACL, but received a medical hardship waiver, thus giving him a seventh season of eligibility.
In 2023, before going down against Clemson in week three of the Owls season, Thompson completed 50 of his 79 passes for 509 yards, five touchdowns, and five interceptions.
The season prior, in 2022, Thompson played a lone season at Nebraska. Battling a shoulder injury, Thompson started 10 games for the Huskers, completing 63% of his passes for 2,407 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, adding five touchdowns with his legs.
Thompson started his collegiate career in 2018 with Texas, redshirting his first season. Between 2019 and 2021, Thompson completed 185 of his 290 passes (63.8%) for 2,422 yards, 30 touchdowns, and nine interceptions, adding 208 yards and five touchdowns with his legs. Thompson won the 2020 Alamo Bowl, throwing four touchdowns in a 55-23 victory over Colorado.
In his career, Thompson completed 63.5% of his passes for 5,338 yards, 52 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions, adding 189 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground.
According to Pete Thamel, Thompson has said his primary focus is getting healthy. Meanwhile, he’ll consider all options - including going pro. Thompson, standing at six-foot-one, 200 pounds, will likely receive significant interest.
