Florida State has relied on the transfers at quarterback for several years.

Former Louisville quarterback Jordan Travis gave the Seminoles a chance to build around him from 2020-23, and then the Seminoles tried with a brief detour with Central Florida transfer McKenzie Milton during part of the 2021 season.

The 2024 season brought former Clemson and Oregon State quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei, but he got hurt Sept. 28 and the season became a struggle in going 2-10 and 1-7 in the ACC.

Florida State has quickly struck in the portal in landing former Central Florida and Boston College transfer Thomas Castellanos. The 5-foot-9, 196-pounder from Waycross (Ga.) Ware County High didn’t mesh this past season with new coach Bill O’Brien, and he quit the team following his last game Nov. 9.

Castellanos went 99-of-161 passing for 1,366 yards, 18 touchdowns and five interceptions, plus 93 carries of 194 yards and a score.

Castellanos was much more productive in 2023. He went 189-of-330 passing for 2,248 yards, 15 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, and rushed 215 times for 1,113 yards and 13 scores.

The Ware County High standout threw for 7,710 career yards and rushed for 3,681 yards in high school as a four-year starter. He was a Rivals.com three-star prospect, who was ranked No. 61 overall in Georgia and No. 8 as a dual-threat quarterback in the class of 2022.
