Former Ohio State freshman quarterback Air Noland has proven he has never been afraid of competition or that he welcomes time to be developed.
Prentiss "Air" Noland is transferring to South Carolina, which has one of the top young quarterbacks in the country. South Carolina redshirt freshman quarterback LaNorris Sellers is entrenched as the starter for the Gamecocks.
The 6-3, 242-pound Sellers went 172-of-265 passing for 2,274 yards and 17 touchdowns, plus seven interceptions. He also rushed 155 times for 655 yards and seven scores for South Carolina, which went 9-3 overall and 5-3 in the SEC.
Noland had signed with Ohio State a year ago, and then after National Signing Day, the Buckeyes added Julian Sayin of Carlsbad (Calif.) High, who had originally picked Alabama. Sayin made the move to Ohio State after Alabama coach Nick Saban retired.
The 6-foot-2, 192-pound Noland finished as a five-star prospect for Rivals.com, and was No. 31 overall player nationally, No. 5 overall in Georgia and the No. 3 pro-style quarterback in the country for the class of 2024.
The Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes had picked Ohio State on April 8, 2023, one week after the Buckeyes offered. Alabama, Miami, Clemson, Arkansas, Oregon and Texas A&M were the other top contenders for him.
Noland threw for 2,140 yards and 22 touchdowns his senior year at Langston Hughes High.
