Former Florida State and Alabama wide receiver Malik Benson is headed to the Pacific Northwest, as he committed to Oregon on Tuesday.
Kansas State and Tennessee were also finalists for Benson, but he will become a Duck.
Benson played for the Seminoles in 2024 under head coach Mike Norvell. Notably, in November of 2024, Florida State fired wide receivers coach Ron Dugans, offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins (as well as defensive coordinator Adam Fuller). FSU hired Gus Malzahn as its offensive coordinator on Dec. 2, 2024 and passing game coordinator/wide receivers coach Tim Harris Jr. on Dec. 12, 2024. However, Benson decided to enter the transfer portal on Dec. 24, 2024.
In 2023, Benson played for Alabama under head coach Nick Saban.
Prior to Alabama, Benson played two years at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas, where he was regarded as one of the best junior college prospects in the country.
Originally expected to be out of eligibility for the 2025 season, Benson is taking advantage of the recent blanket waiver rule that was granted by the NCAA Division I Board of Directors that allows an extra year of eligibility for junior college players.
He will use that final year to play under Oregon head coach Dan Lanning, offensive coordinator Will Stein, co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Junior Adams and the rest of the staff.
The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Benson recorded 25 receptions for 311 yards and one touchdown in 2024 for Florida State in 2024. He also rushed twice for two yards. Benson started all 12 games for the Seminoles.
According to Pro Football Focus, Benson played 437 offensive snaps in 2024, and recorded an overall grade of 59.7.
With the Crimson Tide in 2023, Benson recorded 13 receptions for 162 yards and a touchdown in 14 games.
During his career at Hutchinson Community College, Benson recorded 97 receptions for a school record 2,152 receiving yards, and amassed 21 touchdowns. He earned first-team NJCAA DI All-America honors as a freshman in 2021.
He was the No. 1-ranked JUCO player in the 2023 cycle.
