Just hours after signing with North Carolina, former Maryland defensive lineman Lavon Johnson had a change of heart opting to now sign with Texas per multiple reports. The 6-foot-2, 311-pounder will have two years of eligibility remaining in Austin.
Johnson was fresh off a visit to Texas on Thursday before making his initial decision for Chapel Hill Friday morning.
Johnson is no stranger to changing his mind, back in December he put his name into the transfer portal only to reconsider and announce that he’d be staying put with the Terrapins.
In two seasons at Maryland, Johnson appeared in 18 games in the defensive trenches, posting 19 tackles, two of which were for loss, and one sack.
Johnson really showed his capabilities last year in a 29-13 loss to Iowa when he posted six solo tackles.
He now joins the No. 1 reigning defense in the SEC, which held teams to a league-best 283.4 yards of total offense in 2024.
