Arik Gilbert has found a new home once again, this time transferring to Savannah State. The 6-foot-5, 270-pound tight end was once thought to be a “can’t miss” prospect as the No. 9 overall prospect in the Rivals 100 for 2020.
Gilbert seemed primed to live up to the hype in year one at LSU, posting 368 yards on 35 receptions and scoring two touchdowns, but since then hasn’t seen much time on the field.
Just before the 2021 season began, Gilbert transferred to Georgia and sat a season. The following year he played sparingly, which led to him bolting for Nebraska, but Gilbert never appeared in a game for the Cornhuskers.
In 2023, Gilbert was arrested twice and left Lincoln soon thereafter.
Now, at his fourth program over the last five years, Gilbert joins an offense that threw for 2,244 yards and 19 touchdowns in 2024. The Tigers finished 4-4 in the MEAC.
