Former Notre Dame quarterback Steve Angeli has committed to Syracuse.

Angeli entered the transfer portal as a graduate transfer on April 17 after three seasons with the Fighting Irish and head coach Marcus Freeman from 2022 through 2024. He also participated in most of spring ball with Notre Dame in 2025, including the Blue-Gold spring game on April 12.

He was in the midst of a quarterback competition with the Irish, battling against redshirt freshman CJ Carr and redshirt sophomore Kenny Minchey.

He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining to spend with head coach Fran Brown and Syracuse.

The 6-foot-2, 208-pound Anegli was the backup quarterback to Riley Leonard in Notre Dame's 14-2 campaign in 2024, which included an appearance in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. He played in 11 games and completed 24 out of 36 passing attempts (66.7%) for 268 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions.

According to Pro Football Focus, Angeli played 103 offensive snaps in total in 2024. His offensive grade of 82.3 was the third-highest on the team last season, behind only Leonard (83.5) and running back Jeremiyah Love (91.1).

In 21 career games with Notre Dame — including one start in the 2023 Sun Bowl win over Oregon State — Angeli completed 58 out of 90 passes (72.5%) for 772 yards, 10 touchdowns and just one interception.

Angeli is considered a three-star transfer prospect by Rivals. He ranks as the No. 265 transfer overall in the 2025 portal cycle.

As a high school prospect out Bergen Catholic in New Jersey in the class of 2022, Angeli was rated as a three-star pro-style quarterback. He ranked as the No. 14 recruit in the state of New Jersey.
