After losing two quarterbacks to the transfer portal, Duke got some good news under center on Wednesday when former Tulane quarterback Darian Mensah committed to the Blue Devils and will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Manny Diaz and Co. lost Maalik Murphy and Grayson Loftis to the portal on consecutive days but scored big with the addition of Mensah.
The 6-foot-3, redshirt freshman completed 189 of 287 passes (65.9%) for 2,723 yards and 22 touchdowns while only tossing six interceptions. He also accumulated 132 rushing yards and touchdown this season.
Mensah’s best game this season was a career-high 342-yard, two-touchdown performance in a loss to Kansas State in early September.
Mensah was just a two-star prospect in high school, but outdueled former Oregon quarterback Ty Thompson to earn the starting job this season.
His addition as a precise playmaker should make Durham even more attractive to playmakers in the portal.
