Pearson Toomey, an offensive tackle out of the FCS’ Furman, entered the transfer portal on December 13th. The six-foot-three, 295 pound tackle joined Furman out of Bolles High School in Jacksonville, Florida, choosing them over Coastal Carolina, Army, and Air Force.
In 2023, Toomey helped the Paladins to a 9-3 record, starting at left tackle in all 11 games he played. As a pass blocker, Toomey accumulated a 83.5 Pro Football Focus grade, as well as a 70.8 grade as a run blocker. Across 408 pass blocking reps, Toomey allowed just three sacks and 10 pressures. Toomey was named to the All-Southern Conference First Team Offense.
In his 2022 campaign, Toomey started all 13 games at right tackle, helping the Paladins finish 10-3, ranking 10th in the AFCA and Stats Perform polls. The Paladins' run game averaged 212.8 yards per game. He finished on the 2022 All-SoCon First Team (coaches) and Second Team (media).
Now, the talented offensive tackle will find a new home. Since entering the portal, Toomey has earned offers from Texas A&M, Pittsburgh, Michigan State, and South Carolina, most notably.
