After months of rumors, a report surfaced early this morning that Georgetown forward Akok Akok intends to enter the transfer portal.
The wiry 6-foot-10 big man spent one season with the Hoyas appearing in 31-games, all starts, and averaging 6.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 assists per game. Akok’s 62 blocks were tops in the Big East Conference.
Akok began his college career at Connecticut in the2019-2020 season where he led the American Athletic Conference and ranked 15th in the country with 2.6 blocks per game during his freshman campaign. An Achilles injury limited Akok to just 30 minutes of action across seven games during his sophomore season. He returned to appear in 23 games, starting seven during the 2021-22 season. He then entered the portal and transferred to play for the Hoyas.
Following the exit of Georgetown head coach Patrick Ewing most portal watchers expected Akok to enter the portal but he chose to remain with the Hoyas when Ed Cooley was named head coach. Transfer rumors continued to circle the veteran shot blocker especially after Cooley’s Twitter account posted a picture of the Georgetown players with Akok nowhere in sight.
A really long, athletic versatile forward, Akok rim runs hard for layups and dunks in transition and is very comfortable facing up on the perimeter. He is a capable three-point shooter for his size when he has time and space. A great rim protector, Akok will fly in and play over you on the glass. He will get immediate attention once he officially enters the portal as quite a few high major programs have available scholarship space.
