Zach Gibson, a quarterback out of Georgia Tech, has entered the transfer portal. Gibson made the announcement on his X (formerly Twitter) account on December 19th. Entering as a grad transfer, Gibson spent the past two seasons with the Yellow Jackets, transferring in from Akron prior to the 2022 season. Gibson didn’t see any action in 2023.
Joining the Yellow Jackets in 2022, Gibson played in six games, starting three contests. The six-foot-three, 200 pound quarterback completed 54.8% of his passes for 589 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions, adding 49 yards on the ground.
In 2021, prior to joining Georgia Tech’s program, Gibson spent 2019 through 2021 at Akron. As a Zip in 2021, Gibson played in seven games and started five. Through those games, he completed 109 of his 157 passes for 10 touchdowns and no interceptions, totaling 1,262 yards. He also added 57 yards on the ground. By the end of the season, Gibson accumulated an impressive 91.1 passing grade on Pro Football Focus.
In his career, Gibson has thrown for a 59.7% completion rate, accumulating 3,060 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.
Now, in the transfer portal, Gibson is likely to accrue Group of Five and FCS attention. His former co-offensive coordinator from Akron, in 2020, is currently the Director of Player Personnel at Toledo. Chip Long, who served as Georgia Tech’s offensive coordinator in 2022, is currently at Southern Miss.
