Former Houston safety A.J. Haulcy has committed to LSU.

Haulcy entered the transfer portal last month and will have one year of eligibility remaining to spend with head coach Brian Kelly. Haulcy also still has a redshirt option available if needed.

He spent two seasons at Houston, playing under coach Dana Holgorsen in 2023 and head coach Willie Fritz in 2024. Prior to his time with the Cougars, Haulcy spent his true freshman season at New Mexico and played for head coach Danny Gonzales.

Haulcy is considered a four-star transfer portal prospect by Rivals, and ranks in the top-30 nationally, regardless of position (No. 29 overall). He is also ranked as the No. 2 safety in the portal, and he was the top player at the position available prior to his commitment.

In 2024, Haulcy started all 12 games for the Cougars and earned first-team All-Big 12 honors by league coaches, the Associated Press and Phil Steele. He was also an All-American honorable mention selection by Phil Steele. Haulcy recorded 74 tackles, five interceptions (tied for the most in the Big 12) and 12 passes defended on the campaign.

According to Pro Football Focus, Haulcy played 703 defensive snaps, and recorded an overall grade of 80.5 and an impressive coverage grade of 85.5 in 2024. The 6-foot, 215-pound Haulcy also recorded 68 snaps on special teams.

In two seasons with Houston, Haulcy totaled 172 tackles, one tackle for loss, five interceptions, 15 passes defended and a forced fumble in 24 games played.

As a class of 2022 prospect, Haulcy played his high school ball at Fort Bend Marshall in Missouri City, Texas.

The winter college football transfer portal window opened on Dec. 9, 2024 for 20 days. There was also a five-day window for players to transfer after their team finished postseason play. Additionally, players get a 30-day window to transfer when their head coach leaves.
