Midway through fall camp, Kentucky has lost a defensive back to the transfer portal. Redshirt sophomore Joel Williams entered the transfer portal Monday. He also tweeted the news that he's looking for a new place to play.
Williams, a former three-star recruit out of Louisiana, chose the Wildcats over a long list of suitors that included Alabama, LSU, Florida and Tennessee. He saw the field in nine games as a true freshman. However, a consistent role on defense never materialized. Williams appeared in seven games last season and logged just two tackles.
While the loss of Williams could impact Kentucky's depth in the secondary, the Wildcats did add several new players there via the transfer portal earlier in the offseason. Mark Stoops and his staff signed defensive backs Keidron Smith (Ole Miss), Zion Childress (Texas State) and Jordan Robinson (Livingstone College) from the transfer ranks.
