Former LSU and Grand Valley State transfer defensive tackle Jay'viar Suggs is on the move once again, as he committed to Wisconsin on Friday.
Suggs spent one year at LSU under head coach Brian Kelly in 2024. He decided to enter the transfer portal on Dec. 11, 2024.
From 2019 through 2022, Suggs spent four seasons with Grand Valley State under head coaches Matt Mitchell (who is now at Wisconsin as special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach) and Scott Wooster.
He will have one year of college eligibility remaining to play under head coach Luke Fickell, defensive coordinator/inside linebackers coach Mike Tressel, defensive line coach E.J. Whitlow, Mitchell and the Badgers.
Suggs appeared in all 12 games for the Tigers in 2024, but did not record a start. He recorded 10 total tackles, three tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and two passes defended.
According to Pro Football Focus, Suggs recorded 133 total defensive snaps in 2024, and received an overall grade of 75.8 (third-highest on LSU). Nearly all of those snaps came on the interior, with a handful coming at the defensive end position. He also played nine snaps on special teams.
With the Lakers in 2023, Suggs started 11 games and recorded 21 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, four passes defended and a forced fumble. In 2022 with Grand Valley State, he amassed 21 tackles, seven tackles for loss, two sacks, five passes defended and a forced fumble.
He did not see game action in 2021, GVSU's season was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and he redshirted as a true freshman in 2019.
Suggs is a Flint, Michigan native and played prep ball at Clarkston High School in Michigan.
