Mississippi State will have to revamp its aerial attack next season after losing its top receiver Kevin Coleman Jr. to the transfer portal on Wednesday. The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder will have one year of eligibility remaining.
This will be Coleman’s third time in the portal after signing with Deion Sanders at Jackson State in 2022 then leaving for Louisville a year later and finally landing with the Bulldogs this season.
In those three seasons, Coleman has racked up 1,804 yards on 133 receptions and scored 11 touchdowns. This season was his most productive, posting 932 yards on 74 catches and six touchdowns.
“This was a very hard decision to make for me, but a very important one,” Coleman wrote on his social media. “Last chapter of collegiate football, let’s make it a memorable one.”
Coleman, a former four-star prospect who was ranked No. 50 overall in the Rivals 100, was a big score for Sanders at Jackson State in 2022, he picked the Tigers over Miami and Florida State, among others.
