It did not take long for Missouri transfer defensive end Williams Nwaneri to find his next stop after entering the transfer portal. Nwaneri committed to Nebraska on Wednesday, shortly after entering the portal with a "do not contact" tag.

It was reported on Dec. 10 that Nwaneri planned to enter the transfer portal following one season with head coach Eliah Drinkwitz and the Tigers, but he did not officially do so until Dec. 12.

Now, Nwaneri will head to Lincoln to play under head coach Matt Rhule, newly-promoted defensive coordinator John Butler, senior football assistant Jamar Mozee — who coached Nwaneri at Lee’s Summit North High School in Missouri — and the rest of the Nebraska staff.

Of note, Nebraska recently lost associate head coach and defensive coordinator Tony White and defensive line coach Terrance Knighton to Florida State. The Cornhuskers are reportedly expected to hire Kansas City Chiefs' assistant defensive line coach Terry Bradden as their next defensive line coach.

In 2024, Nwaneri played in just four games, which allows him to count the season as a redshirt. He recorded two tackles, one tackle for loss and one sack as a true freshman.

According to Pro Football Focus, the 6-foot-7, 255-pound Nwaneri played 38 defensive snaps and recorded an overall defensive grade of 64.7. He played the majority of his snaps (17) as a left defensive end lined up outside of the offensive tackle, but also logged reps as an outside linebacker and elsewhere.

Nwaneri was considered to be an elite recruit coming out Lee’s Summit North in the 2024 class, as he was rated as a five-star strong-side defensive end prospect. He ranked as the No. 8 overall recruit, No. 1 player at his position and the No. 1 prospect in the state of Missouri in the cycle. He had nearly 40 scholarship offers throughout his high school recruitment.
