Matt Rhule added a substantial piece to the offensive puzzle for next season, snagging Kentucky wide receiver Hardley Gilmore to kick off the new year on Wednesday. The 6-foot-1, 178-pounder will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Gilmore only entered the portal four days ago and reportedly considered a return to Lexington before ultimately opting for Rhule's offense.
It certainly helped the Cornhuskers cause to have former Kentucky wide receivers coach Daikiel Shorts in the same position there in Lincoln. Gilmore is the second former Wildcat to follow Shorts; Dante Key was the first.
Despite an injury early this season, Gilmore managed to make his mark, racking up six catches for 153 yards and a touchdown in the final seven games of the season.
He figures to step in and be a vital part of the aerial attack next season, joining an offense that threw for 2,969 yards and 12 touchdowns this season.
