Diego Pavia, a quarterback out of New Mexico State, announced on December 23rd that he is entering the transfer portal: “All things considered, I have decided to enter my name and resume into the NCAA transfer portal”.

In 2023, Pavia put together a strong season for New Mexico State under head coach Jerry Kill, leading the team to a 10-5 record and a bout in the Conference USA championship. Pavia put up 2,973 yards, 26 touchdowns, and nine interceptions, while adding 925 yards and seven scores. By the season’s end, Pavia was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year. He led his team in both passing and rushing yards, while finishing top-five in the conference in 13 different offensive categories. Pavia was also named Second Team Conference USA.

The season prior, in 2022, Pavia appeared in 12 games, recording eight starts. Putting together 1,450 passing yards, 13 passing touchdowns, and six interceptions, along with 508 yards and six scores on the ground, Pavia earned College Football Network’s First Team All-Independent recognition. Pavia helped lead the Aggies to the Quick Lane Bowl, earning the MVP honor after passing for 167 yards and two touchdowns, along with 65 yards on the ground.

Now, after a season that earned Pavia league honors and recognition, the passer will look to find a new home. With the departure of Kill, as well offensive coordinator Tim Beck, co-defensive coordinator Melvin Rice, and quarterback Blaze Berlowitz all to Vanderbilt, the Commodores could be a strong landing spot for Pavia.
