Maryland sophomore defensive lineman Lavon Johnson is making the move to North Carolina and new coach Bill Belichick.
The 6-foot-2, 311-pounder had 14 tackles for the Terrapins this past season and finished with 19 tackles in his two-year stint. He had a career-high six tackles in a 29-13 loss vs. Iowa on Nov. 23.
Pro Football Focus had Johnson for 164 snaps in eight games this season. He had a 64.8 grade, including 61.8 for rush defense.
Johnson was a Rivals.com three-star prospect coming out of Cheshire (Conn.) Academy in the class of 2023. He played at Allentown (Pa.) Central Catholic before his post-graduate year.
Johnson had offers from Maryland, Baylor, Indiana, Michigan and Virginia Tech among others, and picked the Terrapins early in the process Aug. 11, 2022.
Johnson picked North Carolina over Texas among others the second time around.
