North Carolina added some competition to its quarterback room with the addition of Purdue redshirt freshman Ryan Browne.

UNC recently signed class of 2025 standout Bryce Baker of Kernersville (N.C.) East Forsyth, and return starter Jacolby Criswell and opening-night starter Max Johnson, who played at Texas A&M and LSU.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Browne had one shining moment this season. He went 18-of-26 passing for 297 yards and three touchdowns, and rushed 17 times for 118 yards in a 50-49 overtime loss at Illinois on Oct. 12.

Browne finished his first season going 43-of-76 passing for 532 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions, and he rushed 50 times for 155 yards.

Browne was a Rivals.com three-star prospect coming out of New Berlin (N.Y.) Milford Academy in the class of 2023.

Browne passed for 2,636 yards and 31 touchdowns and seven interceptions, plus 534 rushing yards and eight touchdowns during his senior year at Venice (Fla.) High. He helped them win the 8A state title and was Mr. Football runner-up.

Browne did a post-graduate year Milford Academy, where he threw for 2,931 yards, 29 touchdowns and three interceptions.

Browne picked Purdue over offers from Holy Cross, Kent State, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Toledo and Western Michigan.

The winter college football transfer portal window is scheduled to open on December 9th, 2024 for 20 days. Additionally, players have a 30-day window to transfer when their head coach leaves. There is also a five-day window for players to transfer after their team has finished postseason play. A 10-day transfer window will open on April 16th as well.
