Notre Dame right guard Rocco Spindler’s last game with the Fighting Irish will be the national title loss Monday against Ohio State.
Spindler joined redshirt freshman left guard Sam Pendleton in leaving Notre Dame and entering the transfer portal. Spindler started 13 of 16 games he played in this season and had a 70.5 grade from Pro Football Focus. That included 71.8 on pass-blocking and 70.3 on run-blocking.
The 6-foot-5, 325-pounder logged 747 snaps for Notre Dame. He earned 10 starts his junior year, and played in 12 games as a reserve in 2022.
Spindler picked Notre Dame and then coach Brian Kelly over Michigan in a spirited recruitment, with LSU, Ohio State and Penn State also in his final five. He also considered Alabama, Arizona State, Florida, Oklahoma and Tennessee.
He was recruited by former ND offensive line coach Jeff Quinn, and also was coached by Harry Hiestand and Joe Rudolph.
Spindler, whose father was former Pittsburgh and NFL defensive tackle standout Marc Spindler, was a consensus top 100 recruit in the class of 2021 coming out of Clarkston (Mich.) High.
Rivals.com had him as the No. 68 overall player in the country, No. 3 overall in Michigan and No. 4 guard nationally.
