The day before Ole Miss is set to open its 2022 football season, the Rebels lost a wide receiver to the transfer portal. Redshirt junior wideout Dannis Jackson entered his name into the portal Friday, Rivals has learned.

Jackson appeared in 20 games across his three seasons at Ole Miss. Last season, he caught 12 passes for 244 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Jackson, a Mississippi native, initially committed to Mississippi State as a member of the 2019 recruiting class before signing with Ole Miss. The former four-star prospect also had offers from the likes of Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Oregon, Texas and several other Power Five schools.

Jackson saw the field right away at Ole Miss, catching seven passes for 80 yards and rushing twice for 12 yards as a true freshman. He didn't log a touch in 2020 but finished fifth on the team in receiving yards last season.

Jackson's departure presumably comes because he did not like his standing on the Rebel depth chart as the team prepares to open its season against Troy on Saturday. Ole Miss added a ton of talent via the transfer portal during the offseason, including a trio of receivers. Lane Kiffin brought in former Louisville wideout Jordan Watkins, Jaylon Robinson from Central Florida and Jacobi Moore from Mississippi State.
