Purdue transfer tight end Max Klare will switch schools, but remain in the Big Ten. He announced his commitment to Ohio State on Monday.
The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Klare ranks as the No. 75 overall transfer portal player this cycle, according to Rivals.
Klare spent three seasons in West Lafayette. He played under head coach Jeff Brohm in 2022. Following Brohm's departure for Louisville, Klare played for head coach Ryan Walters in 2023 and 2024. Walters was fired on Dec. 1, following a 1-11 campaign for Purdue. The Boilermakers hired Barry Odom as head coach on Dec. 8, but Klare officially entered the transfer portal on Dec. 9.
After only appearing in one game in 2022 and redshirting, Klare still has two years of eligibility remaining. He plans to spend those final two seasons in Columbus under head coach Ryan Day, offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Chip Kelly, tight ends coach Keenan Bailey and the Buckeyes.
In 2024, Klare recorded 51 receptions for 685 yards and four touchdowns. He led the Boilermakers in all three categories this season, and was named as an All-Big Ten third-team selection by the conference's coaches.
According to Pro Football Focus, Klare played 579 offensive snaps and 20 snaps on special teams. He recorded an overall offensive grade of 78.2, which was the second highest on Purdue's team, and the highest for players who recorded at least seven offensive snaps.
In 17 career games with the Boilermakers, Klare recorded 73 receptions for 881 yards (12.1 yards per catch) and four touchdowns.
As a prospect out of St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati in the class of 2022, Klare was rated as a three-star tight end. He ranked as the No. 36 recruit in the state of Ohio.
Klare is originally from Guilford, Indiana. He played at Purdue with his brother, Luke Klare, in 2024.
