South Carolina is losing a key member of its defense as redshirt sophomore edge rusher Gilber Edmond entered the NCAA transfer portal Thursday afternoon.

Edmond is the first impact defender to enter the portal for the Gamecocks. South Carolina has already lost three notable offensive players as wide receiver Corey Rucker is in the transfer portal while tight ends Jaheim Bell and Austin Stogner have transferred to Florida State and Oklahoma, respectively.

Edmond led South Carolina with nine tackles for a loss and ranked second with nine quarterback hurries this season. He has started 10 of the Gamecocks’ 12 games, recording 39 total tackles and two sacks.

Edmond came to South Carolina as a three-star recruit in the 2020 class. He will have three years of eligibility remaining at his next school.
