Former Fresno State junior defensive back Julian Neal thought he had found a new home at Stanford.
With the change to interim coach Frank Reich, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Neal intends to enter the transfer portal next week.
Neal had four starts and played in 12 games last year at Fresno State. He finished with 35 tackles, five tackles for loss, one sack and two interceptions. He had picks against New Mexico on Sept. 21 and San Jose State on Oct. 26. Neal had a career-high nine tackles in a 36-28 loss at Air Force on Nov. 9.
Neal arrived as a freshman in 2021 and redshirted, and then he played in three games in 2022. Neal joined the rotation in 2023 and played in 11 games, tallying nine tackles and one pass defended.
Neal attended San Francisco (Calif.) Mission High, and was a two-star prospect at wide receiver by Rivals.com. He picked Fresno State over offers from San Jose State and Eastern Washington.
