Redshirt freshman quarterback Darian Mensah was a lightly regarded prospect two years ago, but not anymore.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder intends to enter the portal, which starts in earnest Monday for underclassmen.

The former Rivals.com two-star prospect signed with Tulane, and the Green Wave and he also had offers from Idaho State and Lindenwood. The San Luis Obispo (Calif.) St. Joseph standout signed with then Tulane coach Willie Fritz, who left following the 2023 season to Houston.

Mensah threw for 2,256 yards and 25 total touchdowns his senior year, helping St. Joseph go 10-2 in 2022.

Mensah won the job under new coach Jon Sumrall and helped the Green Wave go 9-4 overall and 7-1 in the AAC, reaching the title game against Army this past Saturday.

Mensah went 189-of-287 passing for 2,723 yards, 22 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also rushed 60 times for 132 yards and a score. He threw for a season-high 342 yards, plus two touchdowns and an interception in a 34-27 loss vs. Kansas State on Sept. 7. Mensah also threw for 317 yards and two scores in a 34-24 loss against Memphis on Nov. 28.

The winter college football transfer portal window is scheduled to open on December 9th, 2024 for 20 days. Additionally, players have a 30-day window to transfer when their head coach leaves. There is also a five-day window for players to transfer after their team has finished postseason play. A 10-day transfer window will open on April 16th as well.
