According to a source, Texas freshman edge rusher Derrick Brown has requested to enter the transfer portal after one season in Austin.

Brown, who is originally from Texarkana (Texas) Texas High in northeast Texas, did not see any game action as a true freshman and will enter the portal in search of a new home outside of Austin.

A three-star prospect out of high school, Brown chose Texas after taking official visits to Baylor, Texas and Texas Tech. Sources indicated around the time of his commitment that it was a razor-close battle between Baylor and Texas down the stretch.

As a junior in high school, Brown accounted for 67 tackles including 20 for loss and six sacks while also accounting for three forced fumbles and one interception. Brown chose Texas among his 28 offers.

At 6-foot-5, 210 pounds, Brown was ranked as the No. 83 recruit from the state of Texas and the No. 31 outside linebacker prospect in the country.
