According to multiple sources, Texas freshman wide receiver Brenen Thompson has requested to enter the transfer portal after one season in Austin.

Thompson, who was also a prominent member of the Texas track and field program as a sprinter, saw action in nine games as a freshman last fall, recording one reception for 32 yards against Oklahoma State. He was also named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2022 fall semester.

A speedy offensive weapon that earned over 35 offers as a high school prospect, Thompson took official visits to Texas, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and Oregon during his recruiting process. The latter came while new Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham was still in Eugene as the Ducks' offensive coordinator.

A star on the track as well during his high school career, Thompson owns personal bests of 10.22 in the 100-meter event and 20.73 in the 200-meter event. Thompson won three 3A track state championships in the open events as a prep prospect at Spearman High School in the Texas Panhandle.

A four-star prospect from the class of 2022, Thompson was ranked as the No. 144 recruit in the country, the No. 21 recruit from the state of Texas and the No. 23 wide receiver in the country. He was an Under Armour All-American recipient and all-state honoree as a junior.
