Joey McGuire got a major boost to his defense on Friday when he landed a commitment from former Stanford linebacker David Bailey. The 6-foot-3, 240-pound athlete will have on year of eligibility remaining in Lubbock.
Bailey wasted no time making his presence felt with the Cardinal earning time immediately when he stepped onto campus, but really proved his mettle last season, amassing seven sacks, 39 quarterback pressures and forcing five fumbles.
In three years at Stanford, Bailey started in 16 of the 33 games he played in and accumulated 11 tackles, 22.5 of which were for loss and 14.5 sacks.
That’s music to McGuire’s ears after fielding one of worst defensive teams in the Big 12 this season, rankings 15th in points allowed (34.8), 11th in sacks (25), 10th in rushing defense (153.5) and last in pass defense (308.1).
