Transfer Tracker: Veteran WVU LB is busy in portal

Mark Pszonak contributed to this report.

The transfer portal never stops grinding. It is not often that a multi-year starter becomes available, so when West Virginia linebacker Josh Chandler-Semedo entered the portal, he quickly garnered interest from multiple Power Five programs.

Recruiting: Chandler-Semedo earned his offer from West Virginia at a summer camp, which resulted in his commitment a few days later. He was also favoring Pittsburgh, Maryland and Boston College, but the Mountaineers were the first from this group to offer.

At West Virginia: Chandler-Semedo totaled 260 total tackles, 13.0 tackles for loss, three interceptions and three forced fumbles in 44 career games for the Mountaineers. He was a three-year starter in Morgantown.

Potential landing spots: The list of schools who quickly made contact with Chandler-Semedo is extensive, but some of the more aggressive to this point include UCF, Duke, Rutgers, Miami, Penn State, Houston, East Carolina, North Carolina, USC and Kansas.

Farrell’s Take: Chandler-Semedo has a lot of experience to bring to the table and is a Power Five prospect to me for sure. However, he might end up at the Group of Five level and he'd be even more dominant there as well. He's an aggressive tackler who is solid in coverage despite not being the longest linebacker out there. He's from Ohio but I can see him heading south or east more than anything else.

IMPACT METER

The Transfer Portal continues to change the way college football programs recruit and manage their rosters so we here at Rivals.com continue to evolve our coverage. Each time a player of note enters the portal, we will examine their potential impact on the college football landscape and assign an impact rating, both when they enter the portal and when they choose a destination. The scale is from 1-10 and the description below explains the scoring scale.

1.1-4.0 — Not a big impact expected, likely a non-starter and down the bench depth player.

4.1- 6.0 — A solid impact can be expected in the right scenario and has the potential to battle for a starting job.

6.1-9.0. — A high impact player who won’t change a program but will certainly be a very good contributor and starter.

9.1- 9.9 — A very high impact player who should start the moment he steps on the field and will change the outlook of a program immediately.

10 — A franchise transfer who has a chance to be an All American and one of the elite players in college football.
