Transfer Tracker: West Virginia DB nears a decision

The transfer portal never stops grinding. After entering the portal a week ago, West Virginia transfer defensive back Daryl Porter Jr. quickly named a top four. While he may be focusing on one school, the belief is high that one school is firmly in the lead.
Recruiting: Porter trimmed his list of top schools down to West Virginia, Washington State, Utah, Minnesota and TCU before committing to the Mountaineers after a December official visit to Morgantown. He had also taken official visits to Utah and Washington State.
At West Virginia: After only seeing limited time on the field as a true freshman, Porter Jr. made his presence known in 2021 with 46 tackles, one tackle for a loss, one interception and five pass breakups.
Potential landing spots: Earlier this week, Porter Jr. announced a top four of Miami, LSU, Florida State and Oregon. Since entering the portal, the Canes have been considered the heavy favorite, both due to their proximity to his home and also due to his relationship with new defensive back's coach, Jahmile Addae, who initially recruited him to Morgantown.
Farrell’s Take: Porter has a solid season last year for West Virginia and is yet another defensive back leaving the program over the last couple of seasons. Miami is the likely destination and he could announce before the weekend. He's not the biggest cornerback and can get outmuscled at times but he's a sure tackler in space and has a knack for getting his hands on the ball.
