Troy junior wide receiver Devonte Ross becomes one of the few 1,000-yard receivers in the transfer portal.
The 5-foot-11, 161-pound Ross, who attended Cartersville (Ga.) High, entered the portal Monday. He is fresh off of catching 76 passes for 1,043 yards and 11 touchdowns this season.
Ross torched Florida A&M for 11 catches for 229 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-12 win on Sept. 21. He also had a big game against Iowa, catching five passes fro 142 yards and two 60-plus touchdown catches, and he returned a punt return for a 77-yard score in a 38-21 loss Sept. 14.
Ross topped 95 yards in six games last year. His ability in the return game will also be a key addition. He returned 11 punts for 154 yards and the touchdown, plus 13 kickoffs for 214 yards and a long of 30.
Ross originally signed with Kentucky and was projected as a three-star cornerback by Rivals.com. He never made it to Lexington in the class of 2021. He caught 126 passes for 2,532 yards and 29 touchdowns his prep career. He snagged 43 passes for 876 yards and 10 scores his senior year at Cartersville High.
