This previous season, after redshirting his 2022 season, entered 2023 as a backup. After Doug Brumfield went down with an injury against Vanderbilt, Maiava started the remaining 11 games, playing in a total of 14. Maiava completed 63.5% of his passes for 3,085 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, while adding 277 yards and three scores.

By the season’s end, Maiava was named the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year, while also being recognized as an All-MWC Second Team honoree. He helped the Rebels to a 9-4 record overall, landing in the 2023 Guaranteed Rate Bowl and falling to Kansas, 49-36.

Maiava could gather a good amount of attention. Arizona State could be a likely landing spot, as Maiava’s former head coach, Marcus Arroyo, is the Sun Devils offensive coordinator. The MWC Freshman of the Year will get a lot of looks.
